The biggest mistake the average/club match angler makes, is to take too many types and amount of bait with them. IMO. They all end up taking them back home
and never being used.

Let's keep things simple, this will win you more matches and sections, and "coin" ;)
A couple of golden rules here, so let's start with those. This is just my experience OK.

1) DO THE HOMEWORK. Read the match reports from the venue you are fishing at, make notes of what...

OK.. this is the last part.. you should now have followed my guide as to where and how to fish, you WILL have some carp in your net by now, ( on a commercial
)
DO NOT let that feed rate change, on the lead line, this is so important!! even when you dont get bites on the tip.!
ie 1 cube of the meat, and maybe 2 or 3 pellets every 30 seconds!. thats the 11mm pellets! The fish will come back to your feed, trust me on that. ;)
OK the margins,, you have chucked a bit of feed...

OK.. I trust you have followed my guidelines in the previous chapters?? If not, then give up now!! because you are wasting my and your time.

OK.. We are at your peg. SET UP time. Only 2 methods as I told you about.
1) THE ROD - Set up the bomb rod. This I suggest is a 10 ft bomb/feeder rod. Or one of your choice. I like the MAP Parabolix. Reel wise, I use a Shimano
Baitrunner, cheap version. But it doesnt matter that much.
Reel line - as I suggested Terry Eustace Pro Gold 8lb b.s.
OK slide the 3 quarter ounce bomb on first, then a rubber bead.. than attach a snap swivel, then a hooklength with the Kammie B960, hair...

OK.. You are at the peg you have drawn. What does it look like?.. Remember we are going to fish the lead, and close in on the margin pole.... First tip here,,,
stay back from the edges and sit on the seatbox.. take some time to look at the peg. This will avoid spooking any fish that are close to the sides. Many make
the mistake of dumping that over heavy seat box and tackle on the platform and walk about talking to their mates. Avoid that! You only have 2 methods to set
up, so take time....

OK.. This is the BIG section.. I have put everything into sections so you can read and take in everything in simple to follow sections. I apologise to the more
advanced angler, but I think a newcomer to match fishing will find it easier this way. ;)

RIGHT.. let's get on with it.. It's the day of the match.. get to the venue, park up and before you get out of the car, have a think, and relax, play
some music, you are going to frame or win today!
I say this because......

OK.. Let's re-cap - You have got your tackle ready, and limited it to what I suggested. Your bait is ready, and your meat is BLACK!! lol
Make sure you have these following items in the tray in your seatbox ready for the way I am going to suggest you fish a match. These are important.!! If you
havent got them, then get them.;)

1) A pair of small FORCEPS..for disgorging,.. do not bother with any other type of disgorger.
2) 2 x baiting needles. As fine as you can get. To...

OK.. we have got this far on what I consider simplifying what is OUT of the water, not what is IN it!

Let's begin with BAITS. and remember, you want to win or frame in a match here!
So this what I suggest you take to a match.
1) Get some 11mm pellets!! Skrettings are good, but they make most of the "branded" type anyway. But make sure they are 11mm!!! Plainer the better in
my opinion. For a 5 hour match 2 pints of these is enough. Dont get fooled into taking...

OK - you have got this far, and it's the day before the match you have entered. You have read the results from the last matches I hope, and got an idea
of what baits are working , pegs that won etc?
THIS IS WHERE I TURN YOUR THINKING UPSIDE DOWN!!!!

Right - Let's begin with tackle you take...
1) The SEATBOX - Trim it down to just the legs and basic "canal style seat" remove the extra drawers and rig trays, you dont need them! All you do
is sit on the...

This is where we begin. What venue and what match.?
Several options here, do you go for a local club match that you fish regularly, or go for the bigger open match circuit?
I suggest you go for the BIGGER open matches, and this is what this guide is about.
Why? because more anglers fishing, equals more sections, and larger cash wins, therefore increasing your chances of picking up that brown envelope with the
cash in, at the end of your day.
This series is about winning...

OK.. this is my guide to how to win matches or at least sections in a match, for beginners or the novice, or even those who have never won a match but fish
them regularly. ( called "pools fodder" by top matchmen ;) )
Open matches and club matches are usually won by the local venue expert and top sponsored anglers, you all know who they are on your local match scene.
This puts a lot of anglers off fishing matches, but.. there is a way to beat these "experts"...
