I had a session on the River Itchen in Southampton at the weekend and beat my PB Chub twice with fish of 5lb 2oz and 5lb 6oz.

Successful method was trotted maggots, I fed about 3 pints during the afternoon session and fished a single maggot on a strong size 16 to 2lb 8oz bottom. I
caught a few small roach and minnows too but every now and again a big chub would join in! Great fishing.

Ok i finally might have found an local stretch of river holding some good barbel, just wanted some advice on rigs really, the river is fairly small at around
35ft wide and up to 6ft deep when in flood, this is when it fishes best, reports tell me the best barbel fish up-to 18lb have been caught on meat either fished
rolling the bait along bottom or ledgered very close in over big beds of hempseed.

This section can be very hard fishing due to low stocking levels of fish but if you...
