its 6am, and in just over an hours time, i'll be setting off on my 1st trip of the new river season. 1st stop will be to pick my mate tony[ topcat ] up. then its off down the m6 to stafford, to meet up with Chav at the river penk, he has kindly invited tony and i to fish on a private stretch, using centrepin reels. [ a first for both of us ]. wish us luck and i'll let you all know how we get on....

I actually went and had a pleasure session on the Traditional Lake whilst my wife was packing for us to go down to Cornwall last week. I don't do much pleasure fishing but I was only getting in the way at home by making helpful suggestions like 'Why are you taking that!' 'You won't want to wear that whilst we are there!' and 'HOW MANY pairs of shoes!' and she almost threw me out after 10 minutes along those lines.

anyone who fishes the Severn, this new webcam gives a great view from the top of the new theatre overlooking the Welsh Bridge. Topcat and myself had a great days fishing on this stretch last year. No barbel, but a fish a chuck on the stick float, roach & dace, and the odd chub.

SWP 9th May

After being nearly blown off the lake the day before I was hoping to have a better day and boy were my hopes answered.

I got to SWP at 6.45 am and joined a queue of 3 others who were already waing for the gates to open at 7am.

Luckily only 2 of these anglers wanted to go on the traditional lake so I was able to get my favourite swim, I started off by spodding out a mix of 4mm pellets, frenzied hempseed and bloodworm flavouring and fished a tigernut boilie over it.

SWP 8th May

Had a trip out to SWP today and fished match lake 1, the weather was bad with a strong westerly wind blowing across the lake.

I set up with the wind in my face as per usual and set out my shop with a feeder rod out towards the middle of the lake and my pole in the margins.

Things started slowly but eventually opened my account with a 2lb 14oz Mirror carp on the feeder rod with sweetcorn
