Can't remember the full name of it but it was a Abu 401/501 fixed spool. from memory the casing around the spool was grey and the main body of the reel was
blue, i had a smaller one for chub and the barbel and a bigger model that I used to use for the Pike.

my first reel was a second hand centrepin ,me and a mate saved up our pocket money and traded in some old toys (action man for me and a train from richard ) we
we're after a wooden box of tackle and two reel's one was a olympic (mitchell 300 clone) and a tatty old centrepn ,we tossed a coin for the olympic (i
lost of cause) and ended up with the grice & youngs centrepin ,I did learn to cast a centrepin but always wanted a proper reel and ddn't apreciate the
centrepin ,my mate lost intrest and swapped his reel & tackle to me .And i promptley threw the centrepin in a box and forgot all about it .I thought it was
long gone then a couple of years ago i found it again in a box of crap ! not bad to say 20+ years had past and 3 or 4 house moves later it turns up ! still
working great .its the one i auctioned off on the old anglingtimes for reels on wheels buddy bus .
thing is though ,even though at the time i wasn't really keen on my centrepin as i was ankering after a open faced reel ,it did get into my subconcious as about 10 years ago i got another centrepin rememberng how great it was float fishing on the river it was ! and has re-born a new love for them and i can appreciate them much more now .in fact almost too the point of obsession.

First reel was an Intrepid Black Prince.
Moving then, onto a Mitchell 324 Mitchell Match (awesome reel for it's time) Daiwa 123M Closed Face Daiwa 1657's (finger dab jobbies) and too many to mention since, still have the 1657's though. I like what I say & I say what I like! |

My first 'proper' reel was one of the Mitchell 300 series (can't be sure of the exact model number). I cannot remember exactly how many cars i had
to wash to get the money together as a child (it seemed like thousands at the time) but i got there eventually. My local tackle shop at the time did me a deal
on the reel and a Abu matchmark 12' rod. I fished for anything that swam with them for years afterwards.
Sadly, during my time away from fishing both have been lost |

Mine also was an old centre pin,but moved on to an intrepid and then a mitchel cap, which was a great reel for its time as was the match.I kept the centrepin
and used to use it fishing the marine lake at Southport for flatties and eels.It might even be in the garage with all my old gear.[never throw anything away
unless its absolutly knackered]

My lovely old Dad gave me 3 Mitchells, the Match, a 410? and a 300? or something like that. The Match was an awesome reel and i only fnished using it about 3
years ago.
