I used to have a pond at my old place but now the neighbours in the flat below me objected to me sinking one into there lounge!! I have a tropical tank but
don't have any pics to put on as yet - One thing I will say with a tank is...if you have a foot long plec dont bother planting it up with nice plants to
make it look great...the b******ds rip it up in less time than it took me to plant them!!
I know where you are coming from though bandit, there is a specific time in the spring when the water temp rises to the point where they just seem to explode into life....having a pond is a great indicator for when to increase feed levels when fishing. I had mainly goldfish with a couple of Koi and ghosties by the way. |

I have a small pond in the garden , its got maybe a dozen or so goldfish, and a couple of small koi. I will attach pic.
Correct Halibut, they are brilliant for watching feeding habits etc. I have fed them up with micro pellets over the winter, and been amazed as to how they feed and the depths they feed at. Totally useful! In October they were about say 2 ounces in weight, they are now at least 6 ! Hope the pics work on my next post. Keep adding any thoughts of "fish watching" in a pond or aquarium, and what anyone has learnt from it. |

I did have a pond in the back garden a few years ago but thanks to the local heron it got wiped out overnight.
We have a coldwater tank indoors with 3 fantail goldfish, 1 Blackmore and 6 Minnows in. Trying to see some form of feeding pattern is quite a task as it is a free for all when the food first goes in but I have noticed that the larger fish will only be on top for a little while and then move down to await the food hitting the bottom. They also stay out of the "active" feed area and wait for it to come to them. This demonstrates the fact the fish are not always in your main feeding area when out fishing. Roo

One pond two tanks. Pond contains comets and blue orfe. There are 3 large comets which breed every year oh boy do they breed. Interestingly one of them lost
its pigment and turned a pinky white. This throws up some very different colours in the off spring. Varying from white pink light orange and dark orange.
The two tanks are used to grow on some of each tears fry. |

Had a big problem all winter. The pond was losing water, the level dropped 4-6 inches every day. I did check tubing etc from the filter but nothing was
found. I was dreading having to replace the lining.
Anyway the other day I decided to clean out the filter, again nothing was found after checking all the fittings. there were no visible indications of a leak. We have not topped up the pond since???????? |
