Got up Thursday afternoon after my night shift and potted around then went to get my licence and planned to get my bait for the weekend.

I stood in the queue at the post office and my stomach gave one of those horrible crampy growls and I knew immediately what that meant, luckily I was next up at the counter and quickly got my licence and shot out of the post office like a ferret down a hole and raced home, arriving just in time as a large dose of Delhi belly attacked

That put paid to any more trips out that day

The Delhi belly was attacked vigorously with Imodium and work was out of question that night as I work in a chicken processing factory and you're not allowed to go into work if you've had Delhi belly within a short time of your shift start for obvious reasons.

Friday morning dawned dull but calm and more importantly no Delhi belly

Made it to the lake by about 8 am and bought all my bait in the well stocked on site shop, luckily there was only one other guy on the Traditional lake and my favourite swim was still available.

I started off by mixing up a mixture of frenzied hemp and 4mm pellets with a small dose of groundbait to give it some body, then spodded it out about half way along the island, then fished a 15mm hair rigged tiger nut boilie over the top of it.

It wasn't long before I started getting line bites and then the bite alarm went mad with a screaming run and after a short but hard battle I had a 7lb 10 oz Tench in the net a new pb for me

I then had a run of decent sized silver fish and Perch on the float rod and even gave a pole I borrowed from Roo a go and caught a few roach and Perch on it, but poles are not for me the presentation is superb but all the hassle of shipping in and out is not for me.
While I had the pole out I made up some of Mike's maggot goo (I never realised how hard it is the chop up maggots with a pair of braid scissors ) and it worked really well, but very very messy

Richard (Waveney One) popped over for a chat and it was great to put a face to the name, he advised me on how to set up the pole better but by then I'd just about had enough of trying it, so went back to the float rod.

Later on the island swim came back to life and another good run resulted in a 4lb 12oz Tench.

I had a few more silver fish then it was time to pack up for the day.

Saturday morning dawned even more dull and windy too, made it to the lake by 6.45 am and queued up with the other anglers waiting to get into the water park.

7am on the dot the park was opened up and I quickly got my permit and some more bait and raced for favourite swim again, while I was unloading the car (next to the swim) I could see some fish breaking the surface at the island so I cast my ledger rig out with another trusty tiger nut boilie on it.
That was when disaster stuck, I had just got to the car and loaded up with 2 armfulls of gear when I got a monster run, and by the time I had put the gear down and raced to the rod the line had hit the line clip and the rod leapt off the rod rests and the line snapped

I dont use fixed leads and the line snapped at the rig end, so there was little damage done to the fish.

I remade my rig and cast out to the island again, and the next two fish I hooked I lost, one near the net and the other in the margin reed beds.

The next run I failed to contact with, but then I hooked into a small Tench that had certainly had 3 shredded wheat that morning, it fought like a fish twice it's size but was only 3lb 10oz.

That was the last fish I got from the island swim but I put another maggot feeder in the margins and it went wild, I had a succession of quality roach and perch, and even caught a small eel.

One of the perch I weighed at 1lb 2oz and it had a destinctive mark on its belly, it was such a pig for my maggots that I caught it twice

The weather was pants, overcast, rain and strong winds. To make matters worse I went to put up my day bivvy and I was a pole missing, I had last used it it on this lake over 2 months ago so I didn't hold out much hope of getting it back, but at the end of the session I went round the the shop and had a word with the bailiff and there in the lost and found box ws my bivvy pole....what a result.

All in all I had 2 very enjoyable days fishing and a new pb thrown in as a bonus
