How to Fill PVA Bags

Mini and Small Size

These are suggestions on how to fill PVA bags which are used when the lead system stays on the outside of the bag.

This is suited to the mini and small size PVA range sold by The Fishing Bag.

	Step 1 - this is the type of terminal tackle I use when fishing with the mini or small PVA bags. In this case it consists of a 2½ oz. pear-shaped lead, a lead-clip system, a short braided hooklink and a 36 inch leadcore leader.
	Step 2 - take the baited rig and place in the bottom corner of the bag.
	Step 3 - begin to pour in small pellets at first and then a mixture of items. The unique card insert only available with Fishing Bag PVA bags is squeezed making a brilliant funnel. It is possible to fill these bags very quickly even at night and so many customers have been grateful for this facility.
	Step 4 - continue to fill the bag to within ¾ inch from the top. Remove the card. Moisten the thumb and first finger and smear around the inside of the bag. Gather together and twist and turn the bag. This is the first stage of sealing.
	Step 5 - moisten the outside of the twisted section. This best done with your mouth!!! Continue to twist and hold for a few seconds. This holds the bag in place.
	Step 6 - to ensure the bag sinks properly it is advantageous to cut off the corners of the bag with a pair of scissors as shown.
	Step 7 - piercing it a few times over the surface of the bag with a sharp needle helps as well. Be sure not to use a barbed baiting needle as this may pick up the hooklink material in the bag and possibly damage it.
	Step 8 - the finished bag looks like this and ready for casting. I have found them very useful when short session fishing or when everybody is putting out large beds of bait. It is definitely a one-mouthful approach and picks up lots of fish every year for me.

Medium and Large Size Bags.

These are some suggestions of how to fill a PVA bag which will have everything placed inside it, namely the baited rig, lead system and leadcore leader or tubing.

This method is particularly suited to the Medium, Large and Tube Size PVA bags sold by The Fishing Bag.

	Step 1 -Place baited rig in the bottom corner of the bag
	Step 2 - using mini or small pellets begin to fill the bag. This ensures the hook and bait doesn't tangle on the cast.
	Step 3 - the unique card insert put in each Fishing Bag PVA bag can be squeezed forming a perfect funnel for pouring in the various items that will go in your bag.
	Step 4 - Place your lead in next. The picture shows an in-line lead set-up but lead-clip set-ups are just as good. The lead is put in that stage so you know how much to fill the bag.
	Step 5 - continue to fill the bag with your choice of items. At this stage I would add any chopped or crumbed boilies. Any earlier and there is a chance that the chopped boilies may accidentally get caught on the hook as the bag dissolves.
	Step 6 - fill the bag to within ¾ inch of the top and remove the bag. Also at this stage pull the lead upwards through the bag so that it is sitting fairly close to the top of the bag.
	Step 7 - carefully moisten thumb and first finger and smear the inside of the bag several times.
	Step 8 - bring the bag together tightly and twist at the same time. The moisture on the inside of the bag helps the bag stick together. The harder you twist the tighter the bag will become. This is the messy bit. Put the twisted section in your mouth to moisten and twsit again and hold for a few seconds. This finishes the bag off. It is very quick to do and doesn't require the fiddling around with PVA string.
	Step 9 - To help the bag to descend quickly in the water when cast, cut off the two bottom corners with a pair of scissors.
	Step 10 - take a pointed needle or similar and pierce the bag several times all over the bag.
	Step 11 - the finished bag looks like this. To improve the casting efficiency the corners can be tucked, pulled and folded in to produce a rounded bag.

Guide to filling PVA Distance Bags

The Distance Bag, available only from The Fishing Bag, was the first purpose-designed long-range PVA bag.

It was designed and made in 2000 and we have been delighted how they have worked here and abroad.

They have accounted for fish up to 56.8lb in Europe, with a host of large fish in this country.

I have had a personal best fish of 41.00lb using the bags.

The cone-shape flies very straight when cast and is my number one choice when bag fishing over 60 yards.

It has been interesting to see other major fishing companies using the concept.

FILLING DISTANCE BAGS PHOTO SEQUENCE

The photo sequence below shows how to fill the Distance Bag.

	Step 1 - the cone-shaped bag is open at both ends. Thread your un-baited rig right through the bag and allow the lead to fit snugly in the narrow end of the bag.
	Step 2 - begin to fill the bag with your choice of feed.
	Step 3 - leave the card insert in the bag as you fill it. It makes a great funnel and ensures the bags never stick together.
	Step 4 - continue to fill up to approx. ¾ inch from the top. Remove the card insert at this stage. Press the feed in firmly at the top. Moisten your thumb and first finger and smear round the inside of the bag. Bring the bag together tightly and twist at the same time. The moisture on the inside of the bag helps the bag stick together. The harder you twist the tighter the bag will become.
	Step 5 - this is the messy bit. Put the twisted section in your mouth to moisten and twist again and hold for a few seconds as shown. This finishes the bag off. It is very quick to do and doesn't require the fiddling around with PVA string.
	Step 6 - put your bait on. This can then be brought upwards and nicked into the side of the bag. Some people find they can cast out without having to nick it in the bag and leave it dangling. If you are at all unsure refer to next picture as this uses a piece of dissolving foam.
	Step 7 - by wrapping a piece of dissolving foam around the hook before nicking it in the bag will help with possible tangles. Also it has the advantage of coming to rest on the bottom at the top surface of the bag, dissolving and leaving your rig in the correct position.
	Step 8 - the completed bag ready for casting.
